Xidian University(XDU) is a national key university directly under the administration of the Ministry of Education, focusing primarily on the electronics and information education and research.

The history of XDU can be traced back to 1931. The university was designated as one of the 20 National Key Universities of China in 1959. It was among the first batch of universities selected for “Project 211” in 1998 and became part of “Project 985” in 2011. In 2017 and 2022, XDU was enlisted for the national “Double First-class” initiative. 

In recent years, XDU has made a lot of achievement in research in some key areas in electronics and information technology, supporting the national strategies by developing a high-level innovation system in science and technology.

International Development of XDU

XDU is actively engaged in international development by following the national requirement for educational openness and diplomacy.

XDU has established collaborative partnerships with over 300 universities, research institutions and multinational companies in more than 100 countries. It has signed institutional agreements for cooperation and exchange with 166 renowned universities in 35 countries, establishing 67 joint laboratories with  leading universities and companies overseas. XDU has established three Confucius institutes (classes) in Germany, Dominica and Malaysia, and three Sino-foreign joint programmes with universities in the US, the UK and France.

In 2013, XDU was recognised by the Chinese Ministry of Education as one of the first demonstration bases for education for international students. In 2016, XDU was amongst the first Chinese universities passing the quality evaluation for education for international students.

So far, more than 4,000 international students from over 100 countries have studied in XDU.

Academic Strength

The degree programmes offered at XDU cover various disciplines in engineering, science, management, humanities and economics, etc.

According to the 4th round of national assessment of first-level disciplines in China, 3 disciplines were rated A. The overall strength in the discipline of Information ranked as one of the best among Chinese universities.

According to data released by ESI, the Schools of Engineering and Computer Science are both ranked at the top globally.

The employment rates of graduates at XDU have also been ranked at the top in recent years, with 95% for undergraduates and 99% for postgraduates.

HLJU provides students with a good environment for teaching and learning, with excellent facilities and equipment of 582 million Yuan and a well-established library with more than 4200,000 books and journals. It also has a university town, which can accommodate over 30,000 students with sports facilities, canteens and restaurants.
