Jiangsu University (JSU) was founded in 1902, sharing the exact origin with Nanjing University, Southeast University, etc.
It is a national comprehensive key university under the joint support and instruction of China’s Ministry of Education, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and Jiangsu Provincial Government.
JSU is located in Zhenjiang, a well-known, beautiful, and historic city on the south bank of the Yangtze River. It is also where the Yangtze River cuts across the Grand Canal of China.
International Collaboration
JSU prioritizes internationalization by actively encouraging faculty members and students to further their studies abroad, inviting international talents to join us, ensuring mutual academic benefits for both parties, promoting international research collaboration, and recruiting talented overseas students.
JSU has set up cooperation partnerships with 221 universities in 58 countries, especially with academically renowned universities. The university has signed double degree program agreements with a number of universities from the USA, Australia, UK, and France.
In 2020, JSU made a breakthrough in Chinese-Foreign joint education. Through the joint education program with Arcadia University (USA), 253 undergraduate students from Jiangsu University have been studying in the USA for a dual degree.
In November 2020, the Jiangsu University Cranfield Tech Futures Graduate Institute (JSU-CU Institute) was jointly established by Jiangsu University and Cranfield University (UK), which enables students to earn an international master’s or doctoral degree.
JSU has established several international scientific research platforms and key international scientific research joint projects.
JSU attaches great importance to international multilateral cooperation and has initiated many global alliances to promote study and research. JSU is the first “Rotating Chair and Permanent Secretariat” of the Jiangsu side of the Jiangsu-UK World-Class University Consortium and the Chair of the International University Consortium for Agricultural Engineering.

According to the latest ESI Ranking, JSU has improved its ranking from the 65th in 2016 to the 45th in 2022 among all Chinese Universities. JSU boasts 12 advanced academic disciplines (fields of study) ranked by ESI in the top 1% globally. Among them, Engineering and Chemistry and Agricultural Science are ranked in the top 1‰ globally.
In the World University Ranking of Timers Higher Education (2021), JSU is ranked the 58th among all universities in China, and in the QS Asian University Ranking (2021), JSU is ranked the 48th.

Teaching & Learning
JSU has three campuses:
- Main campus
- Beigu campus
- Jingjiang College (a Second-level College)
The Main Building in TJU Peiyang Campus
The building was designed by Cui Kai and his team, a member of the China Engineering Academy, who was admitted to TJU in 1981 and once served as the Chinese chief planner of Olympic venues. The design concept of the main building is open. The building and square library together form a layout of “round sky and square land”, thus “echoing each other at a distance” in space.
Jiangsu University Library
Jiangsu University Library (JUL) consists of the main library, the branch library at the Mengxi campus, the branch library at the Beigu campus, the Jingjiang College branch library, and reference rooms in the schools of Humanities, Foreign languages, Management, and Arts. The main and branch libraries operate on the same integrated management system, which provides coordinated borrow and returns services.
With a total area of 43,969 square meters and more than 3700 reading seats, the main library provides a beautiful environment and comprehensive services and facilities. There are 17 reading rooms, 20 study rooms, three seminar rooms, and the Library Bar. It is also built with several information exchange spaces such as the Remote Video Conference Room, the Multi-functional Auditorium, the Air Classroom, etc.
By December 2018, the library has collected 2.77 million paper books, 1.73 million e-books, 1,405 newspapers, 24,600 electronic newspapers and periodicals, 75 full-text databases, and 16 secondary document databases.
Zheng Dong Library
Located in Peiyangyuan Campus, Zheng Dong Library was designed by Tianjin University alumni, Zhou Kai and his team. He was also the chief Chinese architect of Beijing Olympic Park. At the 120th anniversary of Tianjin University, Zheng Dong, who was admitted to TJU in 1988, donated RMB 50,000,000 to the education fund as a gift. In order to express their thanks to him, TJU decided to name the landmark library, “Zheng Dong Library”.
Life on Campus
As a national comprehensive key university, JSU provides students with state-of-the-art facilities and a variety of campus activities.
Sports Facilities
JSU’s Sports Facilities consist of Main Campus Gym, Zhongshan Gym, Dongshan Playground, Xishan Playground, Jingjiang Playground, six outdoor tennis courts, and two sand beach volleyball grounds, 40 basketball and volleyball courts, a roller-skating field, an indoor and an outdoor swimming pool.
As the symbolic building of JSU, the Main Campus Gym covers an area of 13,800 m2. A table tennis hall, bowling room, bodybuilding room, and martial arts room are on the ground floor. The main competition area is on the second floor with nearly 3,000 seats.
Dormitory
Every apartment building at JSU is equipped with a coin-operated automatic washing machine and air-conditioning. Some free services include needle and thread package, air inflation service, micro-wave oven, hairdryer, etc.
One-stop service is offered in the Overseas Students’ Apartment in both Chinese and English, including services such as POS settlement, one-time bills, reception service, mail collection, accommodating notice, and tourism services.
Food & Dining
Jiangsu University has 15 canteens and specialty restaurants on the main campus and Jingjiang college, including Dongshan Food Plaza, Xishan Food Plaza, Run Jiang Yuan Western Restaurant, etc.
Here you can enjoy different Chines and international cuisines. Besides healthy and delicious food, the environment and preferential price of the dishes are also attractive.
Student Activities
The Main Gate of Peiyang Campus
The main gate of Peiyang Campus was designed by Professor Peng Yigang, a member of the China Academy of Science and honorary dean of the School of Architecture. In front of the gate stand 12 stone plinths, each of them engraved with a particular time period, symbolizing the 120-year history of Tianjin University.
Seeking Truth Road
Seeking Truth Road is located along the central axis of Peiyang New Campus between the Three Questions Bridge and Zheng Dong Library. As the axis of the campus, the main building, teaching buildings, library, The Student Center and a series of buildings are spread out along this road. The name “Seeking Truth Road”comes from the Tianjin University motto “seeking truth from facts”.

Tianjin University covers a total area of 1,362,000 m2 at the Weijin Road Campus located in Tianjin downtown, an area of 2,436,000 m2 at the Peiyangyuan Campus located in Haihe Education Park, Tianjin, and an area of 30,9000 m2 at Binhai Industrial Research Institute.
