From July 16th to July 27th, 17 high school students and 2 teachers embarked on an unforgettable journey as part of the CCN “Future with China” Shanghai-Hangzhou Summer Camp. This immersive experience was filled with educational and cultural activities designed to deepen their understanding and appreciation of Chinese language and culture, and encourage them to consider China as their future degree study destination.
从7月16日至7月27日，17名高中学生和2名老师参与了CCN“未来与中国”上海-杭州夏令营，踏上了一段难忘的旅程。这段沉浸式体验充满了教育和文化活动，旨在加深他们对中国语言和文化的理解和欣赏，并鼓励他们将中国作为未来学位学习的目的地。
Language Learning | 语言学习
During their stay, students delved into the intricacies of the Chinese language. They studied grammar, writing, and speaking, guided by professional Chinese teachers who ensured they learned authentic and correct pronunciation. The interactive teaching methods included fun games, making the learning process both effective and enjoyable.
在夏令营期间，学生们深入学习了汉语的复杂性。他们在专业汉语教师的指导下学习了语法、写作和口语，确保他们学习到地道和正确的发音。互动的教学方法包括许多有趣的游戏，使学习过程既有效又愉快。
Cultural Experiences | 文化体验
The students also immersed themselves in traditional Chinese crafts and cultural experiences. They learned paper cutting, created Chinese knots, painted Beijing Opera masks, and practiced Chinese calligraphy and fan painting. One of the highlights was learning Chinese songs, including “我的中文不好,” a song written by expats.

Culinary experiences were also a significant part of the camp, with students sampling a variety of Chinese dishes and even making Jiaozi (dumplings) themselves while in Hangzhou.
Sightseeing Adventures | 观光体验
The camp featured extensive sightseeing tours in both Shanghai and Hangzhou. In Shanghai, students visited the Shanghai Museum, Yu Garden, and the Bund. They shopped on Nanjing Road, took pictures with the three highest towers of Shanghai, and enjoyed a thrilling elevator ride to the 88th floor of Jin Mao Tower. They also explored citywalk-ing in the fashionable M50 district and Xintiandi.

The students immersed themselves in the vibrant atmosphere of the Wulin Night Market, where they practiced their Chinese while ordering a variety of local foods. They enjoyed a scenic boat ride on the picturesque West Lake and later strolled along its banks, marveling at the famous nighttime fountain show. Their exploration included visits to the Hangzhou Museum and the interactive Zhejiang Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum. The group also walked beside the historic Grand Canal and explored Hefangjie, a bustling street rich with antique buildings and long-standing shops. Here, they sampled local snacks and admired beautiful artifacts. A visit to Meijiawu offered a tranquil experience, where they enjoyed Hangzhou’s specialty, Longjing tea, while walking through the stunning tea plantations.

During their stay, the students experienced the convenience of modern living in China. They traveled between Shanghai and Hangzhou using China’s high-speed trains, which highlighted the efficiency and connectivity of the country’s transportation network. In Shanghai, they navigated the city using the metro, which boasts the world’s largest subway system, and also utilized the city’s extensive bus network.
在夏令营期间，学生们体验了中国现代生活的便利。他们乘坐中国的高铁在上海和杭州之间旅行，这突显了中国交通网络的效率和连通性。在上海，他们使用拥有世界上最大地铁系统的地铁出行，还利用了城市的广泛公交网络。
Moreover, the students experienced the widespread use of mobile payments, making everyday transactions quick and easy. This exposure to China’s advanced technological infrastructure added a practical and modern dimension to their cultural immersion.

University Visit | 结束语
An essential part of the camp was the visit to Shanghai University, a renowned CCN Member University. Ms. Huang Xin, Director of Short-Term Programmes at Shanghai University and CCN Graduate Igor from Russia introduced the students to the university’s programs and campus life. This visit included an interactive Q&A session, providing the students with valuable insights into higher education in China.
