UEA Practice Programme Students Explored Digital Opportunities in Hangzhou: Insights from Industry Visits

In a pursuit to understand the dynamic landscape of digital economy and entrepreneurship in China, students participating in the UEA Practice Programme 2023 embarked on an enlightening journey of industry visits last week on August 3rd and 4th that covered three prominent companies in Hangzhou city – Alibaba, Tianyuan, and SUNON. These visits not only provided firsthand glimpses into the inner workings of these enterprises, but also shed light on why industry visits hold immense value for students determined to take advantage of the digital opportunities around them.
为了深入了解中国数字经济与创业的动态格局，参加2023年UEA实践项目的学生于8月3日和4日开始了一次富有启发性的行业访问考察之旅，考察了杭州市的三家知名企业——阿里巴巴、天元和圣奥。这些考察不仅为学生们提供了第一手了解这些企业内部运作的机会，还揭示了CCN为什么行业访问对决心利用身边数字机会的学生具有巨大价值。
FIRST STOP
Alibaba Headquarters: Pioneering the Digital Transformation
阿里巴巴总部：引领数字变革
The visit to Alibaba’s headquarters revealed a world where digital innovation transcends borders. Cutting-edge technology, seamless cross-border e-commerce solutions, and visionary insights shared by company representatives highlighted how Alibaba has made it easy to do business everywhere. While touring the futuristic and visually striking architecture of the Alibaba Headquarters, the students learned about Alibaba`s development from the beginning til becoming the world famous digital giant, from Alibaba.com till Taobao, Hema and Alibaba Cloud.
对阿里巴巴总部的访问揭示了一个数字创新超越国界的世界。公司的代表介绍了阿里巴巴的尖端技术、无缝的跨境电子商务解决方案和公司富有远见的见解，突显了阿里巴巴如何让所有的生意变得更简单。在参观阿里巴巴总部未来感强和视觉冲击力大的建筑时，学生们了解了阿里巴巴从成立初期到成为世界知名数字巨头的发展历程，从Alibaba.com到淘宝、盒马和阿里云。
The visit was also a unique opportunity to gain insights into the company’s work culture, which is known for being dynamic and innovative. Everyone on campus is encouraged to have and entrepreneurial mindset, think creatively, take initiative, and approach challenges with a proactive attitude. It was very clear how much they value ongoing learning and personal growth, which is the main reason that the company`s campus actually feels quite similar to a university.
此次考察也是一个了解公司企业文化的难得机会，阿里的企业文化以活力和创新著称。阿里巴巴园区内的每个人都被鼓励拥有创业心态、创造性思维，积极主动的心态应对挑战。
很明显，阿里非常重视员工的持续学习和个人成长，这就是为什么公司的园区感觉很像大学的主要原因。
SECOND STOP
Tianyuan: Wonderful Pets Colorful Life
天元：奇妙宠物，多彩人生
The second stop was Tianyuan company and factory facilities from the thriving pet care sector. The students got to understand the company`s development, unique employee structure with miniaturized core product develop team and maximized number of sales teams, and future strategies. Beside this they also shared pet modeling and internship opportunities with the students for them as well as their pet. The students toured the Tianyuan Showroom with pet accessories and toys for every occasion and budget, as well as their Factory. Inside the Tianyuan Factory, they could see first had how the use of digital technologies and machines can reduce the number of employees working on one production track as well as make their work faster and simpler.
我们考察的第二站是蓬勃发展的宠物护理行业的天元宠物用品公司和他们的工厂。学生们了解了公司的发展，独特的员工架构，其中包括迷你化的核心产品开发团队和最大化的销售团队，以及未来的战略。除此之外，天元的员工不仅为学生们分享了宠物建模，还为学生们提供了实习机会。学生们参观了天元陈列室，有各种场合和预算的宠物配件和玩具，以及他们的工厂。在天元工厂内，学生们亲眼看到了数字技术和机器的使用如何提高员工的工作效率，使员工的工作变得更快捷、更简单。
THIRD STOP
Sunon: Designing Workspaces for the Future
圣奥：构建未来办公新形态
Sunon, a leader in office furniture and workspace solutions, exemplifies how entrepreneurship can lead to great success – Mr. Ni used to be a carpenter himself before deciding to start a carpentry workshop, and later found the Sunon group. The UEA Practice students had the opportunity to tour the enormous Sunon Showroom, where they can see a diverse range of office furniture and accessories, including ergonomic chairs, height-adjustable desks, and collaborative workspace setups, as well as experience firsthand the innovative designs and furniture arrangements that prioritize employee comfort, health, and productivity.
圣奥是办公家具和工作空间解决方案领域的领导者，圣奥的创始人倪先生是创业如何带来巨大成功的典范——他在决定开办木工作坊之前曾是一名木匠，后来创办了圣奥集团。UEA学生有机会参观巨大的圣奥展厅，里面有各种办公家具和配件，包括人体工程学椅子、高度可调节的办公桌以及协作式工作空间的设置，以及能够亲身体验到以员工舒适、健康和生产力为重点的创新设计和家具布局。

In today`s world where e-commerce and global business dynamics are rapidly evolving, industry visits hold a vital place in the education of students pursuing relevant majors. These visits infuse classroom theories with practical insights, foster interactions with industry experts, offer glimpses into global business intricacies, and inspire entrepreneurial thinking. Hearing great feedbacks from the UEA Practice students and seeing them engage with companies` personnel during our industry visits to Alibaba, Tianyuan and Sunon, have solidified our belief in the significance of bridging theory and practice, ultimately equipping the students with a holistic understanding of the digital economy and entrepreneurship.
