Xi’an Shiyou University (XSYU) is the only multidisciplinary university in Northwest China featuring petroleum and petrochemical engineering.

XSYU receives joint support from the Shaanxi Provincial Government and the three leading petroleum corporations in China. It is a high-level university in Shaanxi Province, with independent right for the enrollment of international students with Chinese Government Scholarships. Currently, XSYU has 14 academic colleges and 2 academic departments. It enjoys a diverse alumni network with more than 160,000 graduates.

XSYU is committed to enhancing teaching and research, innovation and international collaboration, developing into a high-level research university with specialist features.

International Development of XSYU

XSYU is actively engaged in international exchange and cooperation through extensive partnerships with 87 higher education institutions overseas, including

  • cooperation with CBSC International College of Muntinlupa University for developing a Confucius Institute in Philippines;
  • cooperation with NIIT in India for collaborative education;
  • 1+2+1 Sino-American Talent Development Scheme with 28 universities in the US;
  • 2+2 undergraduate dual degree programmes with universities in the US, Russia and South Korea;
  • 4+1 and 4+2 Master’s programmes and Doctorate programmes with universities in the US, the UK and Germany.

In addition, XSYU has launched student exchange programmes with universities in Russia and the US, and other short-term study abroad programmes with universities in the US, the UK, Germany, France and Japan.

Currently, XSYU is home to more than 1,000 international students from all over the world.

Academic Strength

The degree programmes offered at XSYU cover a wide range of academic disciplines with distinctive strengths in petroleum and petrochemical engineering.

XSYU is committed to providing quality education with continuous efforts for enhancing the level of teaching. Among the 58 undergraduate programmes it offers, 5 are recognised as programmes with special features at the national level, 12 are chosen for developing national first-class undergraduate programmes and 5 are pilot programmes for the national “Scheme of Developing Outstanding Engineers”.

XSYU is also committed to enhancing its strength in research, with nearly 2,500 academic papers accepted by core journals at SCI, EI and ISTP.

XSYU covers an area of 2,078 acres, with total fixed assets of 2.808 billion Yuan and total equipment of 603 million Yuan. It has three campuses:

  • Yanta campus at Electronic Industrial Park of High-tech Industrial Development Zone of Xi’an
  • Mingde campus on Xi’an Zhangba East Road
  • Huyi campus in Xi’an Fengjing Industrial Park of Huyi District
